Frá því rýma þurfti Grindavík þann 10. nóvember hafa grindvísk börn og ungmenni þurft að sækja frístundastarf utan sveitarfélagsins. Hefur þar reynt á velvilja margra aðila og þakkar Grindavíkurbær fyrir þann velvilja og stuðning sem íbúum sveitarfélagsins hefur verið sýndur á undanförnum mánuðum.

Grindavíkurbær hefur biðlað til sveitarfélaga að þau innriti börn með lögheimili í Grindavík en aðsetur í öðru sveitarfélagi í frístundastarf á þeirra vegum í sumar, sé þess nokkur kostur.

Einnig hefur Grindavíkurbær biðlað til annarra sveitarfélaga að veita börnum fæddum á árunum 2010-2008 (8.-10. bekk) aðgang að vinnuskólum þar sem þau hafa skráð aðsetur, hafi þau lögheimili í Grindavík. Grindavíkurbær mun greiða laun og launatengd gjöld þeirra barna.

Grindavíkurbær beinir því til Grindvíkinga að kynna sér frístundastarf fyrir börn í sínu nærumhverfi. Á heimasíðum sveitarfélaga má í flestum tilfellum finna upplýsingar um það starf sem í boði er í sumar.

Access for Children and Youth from Grindavík to Leisure Activities and Summer Work Schools in 2024
Since the evacuation of Grindavík on November 10, children and youth from Grindavík have had to attend leisure activities outside their municipality. This has tested the goodwill of many parties, and Grindavíkurbær (the municipality of Grindavík) expresses its gratitude for the support and goodwill shown to its residents in recent months.

Grindavíkurbær has appealed to other municipalities to enroll children with legal residence in Grindavík but temporary residence in another municipality in their summer leisure programs, if possible.

Additionally, Grindavíkurbær has requested other municipalities to grant children born between 2010 and 2008 (8th-10th grade) access to their summer work schools where they have registered temporary residence, even if their legal residence is in Grindavík. Grindavíkurbær will cover the wages and related costs for these children.
